D&D 3E/3.5 Noob Help Building 3.5 Scout

Hello,

question about the scout skirmish. If I want to benefit from skirmish can I use 2-weapon fighting to make a full attack or can I only jump 5 feet make one attack and jump 5 feet back?

At the moment I'm a 1stlevel scout / human with this stats
Str 13, Dex 15, Con 12, In 10, Wis 14, Cha 8 (25 point buy system)
feats dodge, mobility

Now I'm thinking to optimize this pc if I take 2 level of ranger the next time, to get track and 2weapon fighting combat style and take in level 4 (ranger 2 / scout level 2) the feat weapon finesse and upgrade dex to 16.

Or take 2 levels barbarian to move faster and get rage to boost my low strength to benefit more of a 2hand weapon or a reach weapon.

Actually, neither option works.

You can't do a full attack when you take a move action (so no moving and attacking with two weapons).

Secondly, the errata on the scout says that your move must not finish with you in the same place where you started, so you can't move five feet, attack, and move five feet. Plus, you can't take two five foot steps in a round, so you have just done what we talked about in the first paragraph.

Next, you can never move before and after an attack unless you have Spring Attack.

I see the scout as two options...the archer or the charger. The archer just keeps moving around the battlefield and firing off shots with the skirmish bonus. Very effective and fun.

The second option is even better, the charger. Your first option in combat is to charge into battle, getting the charge bonus to hit, power attacking, and getting the skirmish damage. There are a number of charge feats that help do, from bonus damage to allowing you to charge over rough terrain or in a non-straight line.

So of your options, I like the barbarian better, but you could go for Ranger and focus on the archer side of things.

You have to move 10 feet before making an attack to get your skirmish damage which means no full attack I believe which makes 2 weapon fighting kinda useless. At least thats how I saw it last time I played a scout. My group goes by a system that is like a mish mesh of a bunch of systems so for me cross class between Ranger and Scout was pretty useless. I was allowed to track as a scout using survival got most of the same class skills. In fact the only thing I lost out on was animal companion and spells neither of which I really cared about. Ranger was my favorite class till the Scout.

So I will take the Barbarian to can take more weapons, +10 fast movement and use in combat a big bad great axe, flachion, great sword or a glaive to make more damage and after that I increase with the scout again.

Is my bab +4 I take spring attack.

If you want to play a two weapon fighting scout, head for dervish and take the Swift Hunter+Ranger way. Two Weapon Pounce and Dual Strike help as well.

This is a scary, scary build. Scout+Dervish is nasty.

Also: Scout+PHBII Wizard/Conjurer (w/immediate magic option) - a quick way to get full attacks+skirmish. (If you end up boosting your Int for this, a 3-level Swashbuckler dip is tempting).

A one level dip in barbarian can get you some great stuff for scouts if you look at alternate class features:
1) Pounce instead of fast movement (Complete Champion)
2) Whirling Frenzy instead of rage (Unearthed Arcana)

The more attacks you can get at the end of 10' of movement, the better. TWF is good, as are natural attacks if you can swing it somehow. There are items in the Magic Item Compendium that can help with that, like the Horned Helm.

Mounted Archer.....

The horse uses it's movement, yet you can still get a full attack action, you'd still get the extra damage.

The skirmish ability cannot be used while mounted.

(Translation: we never thought of that when we were developing the class, and it's way overpowered.)
