Message: <blockquote data-quote="Olaf the Stout" data-source="post: 3213080" data-attributes="member: 13703">A guy I used to work with did something similar, although he didn't get fired for it.There was a group of us from work that were going to the soccer on a Friday night.  The stadium is close to the city and it was summer so we were going to walk to the game from work, taking a few drinks to have on the way.  I was on holidays at the time so I met the guys at the pub near the stadium before the game.When I got to the pub this guy was pretty drunk.  The first thing he tells me when I saw him was, "Guess what, I pulled a sickie today."  Ok.  Not exactly the smartest move because:1.  We all worked with him2.  The place where I live seems to have 2 degrees of separation, despite being a relatively big city3.  My boss was also meeting us at the pub before the game!  Sure he was on holidays too at the time but it didn't take him long to figure out what had happened since he had to sign his sick leave form.What was even worse was he had done something similar before.  He live in an apartment in the city only about 5-10 minutes from work.  Twice before he called in sick and got caught out when my manager spotted him out and about at lunch time.  What an idiot!Unfortunately it is a public service position so you have to do something pretty bad to get fired.  He did get in a lot of trouble for it and his holiday pay docked to make up for the "sick leave" though.  I'm just glad I don't have to work with this guy anymore.  Calling him an idiot would be putting it kindly.  A PhD doesn't always guarantee intelligence I guess.Olaf the Stout</blockquote>
