Yeah. I created Drizzt Do'urden. No, seriously. Many moons ago, there was an issue of Dragon published that had an excellent cover with dwarves on it by Keith Parkinson. One of the articles in that issue was about using drow (then found as a PC race only in Unearthed Arcana) in unusual ways, like what would make a drow fighter different from a human fighter, etc. Rangers were also covered in the article, and I thought it would be excellent to have a drow ranger who was especially effective against his humanoid enemies because they thought he was evil like them (which was one of the article's suggestions). Throw in the dorky sword with the knife that comes out of the handle from Patrick Swayze's movie Steel Dawn (hey, I thought it was cool when I was in high school!), make his father a moon elf who was under his drow mother's enchantment (making him still a full elf, even though he's half-drow), add an even dorkier black streak into his hair back before any of a number of mutant or Image comics characters at the time had a similar streak (hey, I thought it was cool when I was in high school!), and voila! Koryn Ravenwind! It wasn't long after that that The Crystal Shard was published. Imagine my astonishment when I saw my character parading around in Bob Salvatore's first novel. I was thinking of this several months ago (before a flood destroyed my 15 years worth of collected Dragons and comic books [sniff] :( ), and I wanted to assure myself that I wasn't delusional. So I found the old Dragon, and sure enough, it was published several months before The Crystal Shard. I'd love to know if Salvatore got the inspiration from Drizzt from the same place what bore Koryn. Probably not, considering the length of time between the writing of a manuscript and it's actually publishing date.
