Pulling TSR out of the Blume and Gygax Death Spiral is a laudable act. Singular It doesn't mean she's a laudable person. It doesn't outweigh what came after. Hell, even selling to WotC isn't something I'd consider laudable. It's a smart business decision, but it's also the logical one. It's like saying I'm an amazing driver because I drove to the park-and-ride in no traffic without wrecking - I demonstrated basic competence in the task. Here's what would have made Lorraine Williams laudable in my book.

Taken steps to make up for the misogynist culture of previous management by bringing on more women in design roles. (Bringing in additional authors of color as well would have been nice).
Issue formal apologies to Darlene, Jean Welles, and Rose Estes (and any others) for their mistreatment at the hands of prior management
Left GDW (or even New Infinites Productions) alone.
Accepted third party licensing contracts with companies like Mayfair (or at least left them alone).
Not published Buck Rogers.
Not sent C&D letters to fansites.
Paid the authors of their novels market rates.
Not pumped up their finances through advances from Random House.
EDIT: If she hadn't done the first two items, but had done everything else, I'd consider her fine. Not a worth real scorn like Gary and Kevin, but not worthy of praise either. If she'd done all of those, I'd consider her worthy of praise, the same way I view Steve Jackson (the SJG Steve Jackson) worthy of praise.
