Nothing quite so cool as...

Sitting in a restaurant, eating a late dinner, and overhearing sufficient conversation to realize that, not one, but two of the tables near you are occupied by gamers discussing RPGs. And the two tables weren't even part of the same group; just complete coincidence. :D

Well, there is one thing cooler, and that's when one of the guys recognizes the logo on your T-shirt as your avatar from EN World.

That's just too funny.

The only thing close to it that I've experienced is the annual "spot the gamer!" contest we have in airports on our way to GenCon. Also, I once walked into ConnCon and a complete stranger checking in (the extremely cool Rugger, as it turns out) shouts "Piratecat!" Talk about being caught off guard. . .

In another bit of weirdness, one of my players was out in California at a con, and realized that the guys at the next table were talking about his character in our story hour. :)

That is cool.

This year at GenCon after the Arcana Unearthed seminar I actually had someone from Britain come over to me to say he wanted to meet me and tell me about the two campaigns he had run over the past year; both in the same setting - my setting. (See my sig.) That was very cool. After GenCon he e-mailed me a campaign map of the setting that he and his players had created during the game.

Totally, as we were walking into Gen Con this year, some folks yelled out "Teflon Billy" and got me to sign their programme.

The people I was wtih asked "What are you so famous for?"

I had no answer for them :uhoh:

I was mailing some RPG books to people when the woman behind the counter recognized them and started talking about how much she hated both d20 and the ENnies. :(

Being a friend of Angelsboi for one, but that'll do for a start.

Now see, that's just plain rude. I mean, I worked retail, and worked in several movie theaters. And if I said to a customer "Man, your dress is hideous," or "You're going to see that?! Man, your taste in movies sucks!" I can't see any other result than having the manager fire me on the spot.

What a jerk.

Reminds me of something....

About 10 years ago a friend of mine came to the city I live in (population about 300,000). I was about town during the day and ran into him. He was a little surprised by this as I was the only person in the town he knew (so he said).

Anyway, that night we went out to dinner. We were in a restaurant and I told him that of the three or four other tables I knew at least one diner at each.

He commented on what a small city the place was. I was busily trying to convince him that it wasn't so small, that him running into me, and me knowing the people at these tables was simply coincidence. Then a woman with a basket came over and asked if we would like to buy a rose.

When I answered her, calling her by name, my argument was lost.

:)
