Novel: The Restless Shore & Killoren

Dire Bare

Legend
I just finished the D&D novel, "The Restless Shore" by James P. Davis. This novel was just released and takes place in the current Realms timeline, after the spellplague. The story is about four characters drawn to the wilds of Akanul to battle plaguechanged aberrations. It's a great read and manages to be quite creepy!

The reason for the post is that one of the main characters is a Killoren, the PHB3 race D&DI subscribers received a playtest article about. The playtest article calls the race Wilden, which was controversial for those who read it. Some preferred the original name of the race from 3rd Edition, the Killoren.

This novel refers to the character Vaasuri as a Killoren, and gives a great physical description of the character and also of his "mood changes" as he shifts between the different Killoren nature aspects. The novel doesn't go into any detail into the background of the Killoren race, or even of the character of Vasurri. Other than it does describe Vasurri as fey, both in nature and in background.

Since this novel takes place in the 4th Edition Realms, I'm hoping that the game designers take a cue and call the race Killoren rather than Wilden in the PHB3 next year!
