Message: <blockquote data-quote="Richards" data-source="post: 5738931" data-attributes="member: 508">I just slogged my way through The Pyramid of Doom by Andy McDermott, apparently the fifth in a series of archaeology-based novels that desperately tries to pull off an Indiana Jones/Lara Croft/James Bond feel (and tries a little too hard for my tastes).  Another 50-cent book sale purchase, and I suppose I got my 50 cents of enjoyment out of it - my personal highlight was the off-hand reference to the Daleks in the latter half of the book - but it was a bit formulaic and the antagonists repeatedly acted stupidly so as to allow the heroes of the story to survive to foil their plans.  I can't really recommend it.Next up, though, is a real treasure: Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's Fever Dream, the latest in their Agent Pendergast series (the first one was The Relic, which was made into a movie).  It seems like I've been waiting for ages for this one to hit paperback!  I heartily recommend this entire series, and am expecting good things from this latest entry.Johnathan</blockquote>
