First of all, my apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum/sub-forum. I wasn't exactly sure where to post this. Mr. Moderators, if this is the wrong place, can you please move it to where it belongs? Thanks in advance!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

I just wanted to let folks know about a (relatively) new RPG that is on the market from Firehawk Games (FHG). It is called Novus, and it has been in Open Beta since January of last year.

Novus is a 2d10 roll-over system that is designed to be very flexible and easy for the GM to tweak and adjust, while still remaining relatively balanced overall.

While Novus has Levels and Classes, it is actually more of a skill-based, point-buy system. Levels are more of breakpoints than anything else, and Classes are essentially templates (with minor customization capabilities built in) to start a character off in the right direction.

As mentioned above, Novus is a 2d10 roll-over system, but we do add a few little quirks to the mechanics to make them more interesting. For example, the dice can implode or explode. Exploding dice happen when one or both dice roll a 10. For each 10 rolled, you roll another d10 and add it to the total. For Imploding Dice, if a 1 is rolled, you roll another die and subtract it from the total. Both are unlimited in how many times this may happen. This also means that any character may succeed (or fail) at any task.

Additionally, for every 10 points below or above the Target Number of the task, you earn a Snag or Boon Point, which are then immediately spent to purchase bad results or potential critical successes. The important point here is YOU, the player decide which results you get, not some random die roll.

Combat is skill based, and weapons are grouped into similar skills. If you successfully hit a foe, you do a predefined amount of damage, and then additional damage based on how good your attack roll was.

Spellcasting is also skill based. Individual spells have a one-time cost to learn, but once learned, they may be cast anytime, so long as you have enough spell points and you can make a good enough casting roll.

As mentioned above, Novus has been in Open Beta for a little over a year. You can get it from RPGNow -- RPGNow.com - Firehawk Games - The leading source for indie RPGs -- and there are three versions currently available:

  • Free Version -- This version has no art work and no index. No bookmarks and no internal hyperlinks. But what it does have is a full version of the rules. The Free Version will only remain available until the middle of next week (approximately April 11th, 2012), and then it will go away.
  • Thrifty Version -- This version has everything that the Free Version has, plus artwork and an index.
  • Deluxe Version -- This version has everything found in the Thrifty Version, plus it also has bookmarks and internal hyperlinks.
Right now, Novus is only available in PDF, but that will soon change. Once the Open Beta is over (next week), I will be preparing Novus for the POD service provided by RPGNow. Additionally, Firehawk Games has signed a contract with Chronicle City (run by Angus Abranson, formerly of Cubicle 7) to provide both print and distribution services for FHG products, with Novus being the first FHG product that he will be handling.

I hope that you give it a look. I don't think that you will be disappointed. If you want to find out a little more about Novus, you can always visit us over at Firehawk Games -- Firehawk Games

Thanks for taking the time to read through this!! And more thanks if you decide to take a gander at Novus!
