Heretic Apostate
First Post
(Let's try this again. Got timed out last attempt...)
What character concepts have you grabbed from books?
In the "General" series (by David Drake, I think...), there is a discussion about a policeman who, against all convention within his department, actually is honest. He gets into trouble when he runs afoul of a powerful nobleman. He's tossed into the worst jail, to be forgotten. This policeman has many enemies in the jail, including four slavers who wish to repay him for arresting them. The next day, the jailed policeman is found with four corpses, some who have their heads facing backwards, others who have their ribs stove in. As he's being dragged away to solitary, he shouts out to the other prisoners, "You don't understand! I'm not locked in here with you! You're locked in here with me!" He cuts a swath through the worst denizens of the prison, until the emperor is so impressed that he releases him and makes him head of the police force for the capital city.
Now THERE'S a character concept....
