First of all sorry if this is in the wrong forum everybody/mods. I've got a character in my dnd campaign that I have introduced to my players a couple of times and am puzzling how to stat out (until now been friendly but the players may end up picking a different side in the fight to what I expected, pah! players!?!). First of all I'll give the information I remember giving the players about him, most of it was made up by me on the spot in conversation, silly me not preparing quite enough for the session. Then I'll describe what I reckon some of what he should be. Then I'll beg for ideas....... Ok.. he lives in a hut built on stilts in the middle of a crocodile infested pond in a mangrove swamp alongside the merchant town built on a river delta. He was avoided by the townsfolk but not disliked, occasionally visited by the locals as a sage or healer. He's a halfling fairly old slightly crotchety. Dresses in ragged robes. Obviously on good terms with nature, described the crocs as friends. Has a lot of knowledge about events that have/are/will happen far off. (provided directions to the hydra the players were hunting and made prediction about what would happen on the way back and the cataclysm later, in very vague terms, semi inspired by the prophecies in the story hour produced by a certain Piratecat whom I'm sure you all know of(if you dont go read it now its great). Brews potions - their reward for a service rendered for him was personalised potions that gave them inherent magical powers. He also gave them rings that had funky powers but those could be garnered by other means rather than made. (potions were more powerful than normal ones, so I'll probably give him craft wonderous I guess) Hurried them away towards the end of their conversation as it was getting dark and "you don't want to be here when it gets dark", I used this cos the game session was slowing down and I wanted them to move on rather than us spending all the session having a chat and them weaseling information out of him (which they were doing amazingly well, 2 charisma 20s rolling well and asking the right things). ok I'll probably remember more if people have any questions, I'll post it if i think of it. I was thinking a druid, fits the flavour of the swamp dwelling sage type in tune with the world , possibly using the wildshape varient from unearthed arcana as I want to try it out sometime. Loremaster seems to fit the sagey, knowledge aspect, cant remember the requirments for it at the moment. And as for the dangers that happen at night I'm very unsure, it sounded cool and worked to hurry them up, but i'm lost for this part now. Possibles he's a were creature? were-croc? seems a bit naff. a deal with a demon or soemthing similar, but he's not evil almost definitely true neutral given his actions so far. As for level, I'm fairly easy hes more powerful than the party (ecl 8) but hes less powerful than the big beastie dragons that have invaded the world and are about to wage war (haven't picked quite how large i'm gonna make the boss dragons but about 15/16 mayeb higher if needed). Ok my longest post on enworld so far, and now for the magic words "help me enworld hivemind, your my only hope"
