NPC "Personality Types" You Love?

First Post
So do you guys have any NPC personality types that tend to make a re-appearance in your various campaigns?

I know I almost always end up putting a trickster good natured tiefling con artist in mine.

Picture a mix of Face from the A-Team with well... Demon blood. :P

I guess I also have a soft spot for the good guy turned bad Darth Vader esque NPC.

What about you?

The mysterious tailor who knows too much - Based loosely on the Cardassian tailor from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In my current campaigns, it's a halfling who happens to be the god of mischief and trickery in disguise.

The reformed villain or the fallen hero - sometimes both at the same time. A character who has been on both sides of the fence, though their current allegiance takes precedence of course.

The man in black - a disguised rogue or assassin who is actually a noble the PCs meet in both guises. Often, the ruse isn't discovered until much later in the campaign if at all.

I like to have (in most campaigns) someone who walks a really fine line with the PC's between "he's helpful" and "I'm going to smear his guts across the floor".

In my current campaign, one such character (a 'devil') had been tormenting the players in this way. He had come close to being killed before, but would beg and plead for his life when it was almost ended, and they would give in. However, a few sessions back they told him to go away, and that the next time they saw him, he would not be allowed to live...

...they made good on that promise during the last game we played.

The Femme Fatale. Classic.

The low-Cha super-arrogant jerk that's not necessarily Evil (similiar to what weem said, walking that fine line)

The ruthlessly efficient, non-evil mercenary that always seems to pop up at the worst of times.

The blinded-to-the-truth idealist that thinks they are doing what is best. Somewhat synonymous with the "ends justify the means" NPC.

The rightfully angry out-for-revenge NPC that regrets having to face off against the PCs, but circumstances made it happen.

The alien/sublime BBEG that doesnt see what the big deal is about all this fuss over the "cost of lives" and "souls" and "right or wrong"... typically scary fey.

When I'm playing, I enjoy the "Here's lots of gold and some extra-groovy magic items" NPC.

As a DM, I find that the super-nice, charming, extremely likable NPC invariably draws all of the PC's suspicions--which can be very useful.

The crazy, but well meaning old wizard. Happy to help the PCs although the potions he brews may not turn out quite right.

The sophisticated, charming bad guy. Evil alright, but charismatic about it.
