This is a 5-level prestige class. Slow BAB progression, good Fort save. At levels 2-5 you get +1 to your spellcasting class. At each level you get Drain 1/day.

Drain (su): When you handle magic items, you may choose to drain them. When you first attempt a drain on an item you roll a Fort save (DC = 10 + item creator's caster level). If you fail the save, you fail to initiate the drain and that drain attempt is wasted. If you roll a 1 on your failed save, you suffer 1 point of Con damage. If you succeed on your save, you begin draining the item. The time it takes to drain the item is one round per xp point that was necessary to create the item (so, if a potion's xp requirement was 3 xp, it takes 3 rounds to drain that potion; if a ring's xp requirement was 1000 xp, it takes almost two hours to drain it). Constant contact is required during the draining. If you are distracted (such as by combat) you must succeed on a Concentration check (same DC as previous Fort save) each round to avoid losing the connection (and other checks, such as Balance or Dex may be required, based upon circumstances). Draining the item is a standard action (when it comes into play). If you maintain contact throughout the drain, the item is rendered non-magical and you gain the xp that you've drained out of the item.

Okay, here's the idea. Most PCs would ignore such a class because the benefit of the class isn't worth it. But, it makes for a threatening NPC, especially if he gets hold of the party's items.

hmmm

I like it. If one was playing a Wizard, it would definitely be worth taking one level of it, if only because it could very well counter out the problems associated with item creation. It also gives you something to do with magical items you lose interest in (aside from flooding the magical item market). Certainly not worth taking two levels in. Hope you don't mind if I borrow that ability. It just made sense to a class I've been working on.
