NPCS-Equipment vs. Treasure-Type

Hiho

my party has detected the following Problem.

We fought vs. another Party which nearly identical ECL (we are 4 with 6 Persons and the oponnents were 4 with 5 Persons) so the matchup was nearly even.

After we won the battle we checked the "treasure" and detected a much smaller one as we thought its gonna be.

At this moment we recognized that the Treasuretypes in the DM-Book do not confirm with the Treasure a Charakter should have.

For Example. This 5 Oponnents are of lvl 4 or 5 and should have all Equipment with a value of 10.000+ Gold. But after the battle we got a whole Treasure of i would say <10.000 Gold. But if i say each of them has a equipment of 10K * 5 we should get a treasure that nearly give us 25K Gold(sell value).

I think that the Treasure-Table is not designed for NPC-Opponents. But i also understand that we cannot get so much money at this lvl (we are between 3-4). At this lvl its not the great problem but if i think at higher lvls where a lvl 10 Charakter has much more Equipment this could be a very high goldboost.

Do u recognized this Problem in your Campaigns? And if so how Do u handle it?

thx

from the DMG

gear value (pg 135,127 )
Level PC NPC
2nd 900 2000
3rd 2700 2500
4th 5400 3300
5th 9000 4300
6th 13000 5600

If given straight gold for cr they would total <6000
each cr 3 = 900, cr 4 = 1200

there is no way they should have 10k each.

My explination of the difference in PC ans NPC gear value this represents the range in equipment value for a given level. It based on a large number of factors. Including if anyone in the party has item creation feats, and how much property is in land, buildings, how much time is spent adventuing, and how recently.

The party I DM actually fell near the middle of this range last time I audited magic items. Not including a stake in an Inn/Toll road (no profits yet) a house and library owned by one player, which she rarely visits. They were also offered a stake in a merchant ships cargo at 300% profit - no takers
