[QUOTE="Jackcarter, post: 109265, member: 1651"] I don't see how it's 'strongly' implied; plausible, yes, but strongly? I believe that only the most worthy, whatever that may mean, are given that template and then only the best out of them become akutenshi. More on this later... I find Aku to be overpowered, but not maho. Wiz mahos should blow through their hps very fast, due to blood magic and costly nature of wiz spells. Also, all mahos risk becoming idiots very fast if they don't ration their spell use. Since OA doesn't specify as to whether or not you stop at Wis 1 or 0, I'm assuming that it can go as low as 0. Do you have Rokugan and Monsters of Roku? They are must for roleplaying the Tainted. If you don't have them, let me tell you few things about it. Rokugan corrects many of the gross advantages of being a maho, and in fact, makes them somewhat inferior to regular casters by bringing in the concept of Taint modifiers. Furthermore, Monsters indirectly address the problem of aku template by creating a half-way temp/powers called the Tainted Characters; basically, those with high taint scores gain powers at the expense of physical degeneration. Both books also pump up the Tainted's powers by giving more options, but they also restrict them. At least, I think. I use Rokugan but my campaign's in Faerun so maho/shadowlands haven't really come up in play. Anyway, so I may be wrong on some of my points as it's been a while since I've read those sections.
