Occult Slayer

Does anyone have a particular Occult Slayer build that you'd like to share?

At 10th level you'll have 4 feats (plus bonus feats from classes), two of which are required for prerequisites (improved initiative, weapon focus). As a 5 level PrC, you'll probably be toward the end of it by 10th level.

I'm trying to decide what type of melee fighter to play in my next campaign and the Occult Slayer seems like it is a good compliment to several styles (barbarian/fighter vs. ranger/rogue).

How about a dwarven paladin? With the dwarf's racial bonus vs. spells and sp abilities stacking with the PrC's class saves vs. the same, at 10th lvl he'll have a +5 on all such saves. With the paladin Cha bonus to saves, the Mind over Magic and the Blank Thoughts abilities, he should be very hard to affect magically.

For some reason, paladin had never occurred to me. That's a good idea.

Any other suggestions?

How about feats? With only two feats to spare, there's too many choices!

From Complete Arcane:

Mageslayer - A caster is unable to cast defensively if you threaten him (i.e. he still provokes AoO even if casts def) but he knows it. Not so useful but you need it for

Pierce Magical Protection (or something like that) - your attacks (melee?) ignore the AC bonus from spells and if you hit, you dispel the spells in question.

The occult slayer in my group is taking these.

There's also Pierce Magical Concealment (?) - you ignore all effects that give concealment or miss chance and dispel them too if you hit, IIRC. Imho, this feat doesn't rock as much the second one.

If you can be evil, Hexblade/Blackguard can have really high saves. You may also combine two levels of Marshal class to get 1 each of major and minor aura. Take "+1 to all saves" major aura and "+ cha bonus to will save" minor aura.

You can also be a Paladin/Marshal, of course.

Hmm, I don't have my CW in front of me, but I would think Hexblade would be a very bad choice for an Occult Slayer. Isn't the entire purpose that they hate spellcasters? Hexblade is a spellcaster.

In FR setting, aiming for Divine Champion of Haela Brightaxe (huh-ae-la brite-ax), the patron of those dwarves who find particular joy in fighting, battling monsters, and adventuring
to those ends. One potential pitfall is that Haela Brightaxe is chaotic good, and a DM might not allow a Paladin to choose a CG deity as a patron deity.

The Complete Arcane mageslaying feats are stupidly overpowered. Use them with caution.
If edhel described them correctly, they don't sound overpowered. Why do you say that?
