Be sure to use the T13K Setting Guide PDF for creating your character, but note that ANY PC race from the guide is available to gladiator characters! Newly-made gladiator characters start at an Effective Character Level of 3, which means that characters with no ECL modifier (such as humans) start with 3 class levels, while characters with an ECL mod of +1 start with 2 class levels, and those with a +2 ECL mod start with 1 class level, etc. Gladiator characters begin with the equipment and coinage equal to the amount of gold listed in the DMG for a character of their level (not their ECL), thus 2,700 gold for 3rd-level characters, or 900 gold for 2nd-level characters. Gladiators of 1st-level have the average amount of gold for their class, as per the PHB. Don't worry about an elaborate background for your gladiator, just a short blurb regarding their personality and how they came to be a gladiator in the Doluhre Arena of Ulruz is sufficient. Most gladiators are slaves, though a few freemen and others do compete, rarely.</blockquote>
