Does anyone know af any resourses that expand on the rules of cohorts and especially followers???

I am lost in this. The DMG is vague. Is it really just solely up to the DM on how to rule and abjucate on these matters.

thanks

I don't know if it is of your liking but maybe you will find a starting point with the PrC (3.0) of the Dreadmaster from Faiths and Pantheons. The dreadmaster gains class features like:

Enhanced Leadership (Ex): Beginning at 6th level, the dreadmaster receives a +2 bonus to his Leadership ... [scramble]... penalty for cruelty.

Fanatical Loyalty (Su): Followers and cohorts of the dreadmaster become fanatically loyal to the dreadmaster ... [scramble] ... dreadmaster gains this ability at 8th level.

Special Cohort: The dreadmaster attracts a special cohort (see Chapter 2 of the Dungeon Master's Guide) in addition to any co-hort already gained. ... [scramble] ... Use the “Example Dreadmaster Special Cohorts” table to select special cohorts gained through this ability.

Kind regards

Sorry for being vague.

The question is really about followers. How do other DM's handle PC's aquiring them. Do they just walk up and offer their services or do the PC's need to 'scout' out the followers??

depends on the campaign and the PCs in question. If you're a highly-renowned clericy-person, then its likely that paladins and the like might swear themselves to your service....

Depends on your campaign and the characters. Remember that followers are typically expecting to be paid for their services but their first priority is their Leader.

IMC, the cleric is considered something of a prophet and messenger of the gods. As a result, his followers pretty much flock to him.

The bard is a reknowned performer and a widely regarded hero, but aside from a few people who happened to be there during a massive jolt of personality, he's had to recruit his followers.

The Ogre paladin quasi-recruits his followers. He's got a bit of hero-worship from the non-evil monstrous humanoid community but they're a rather cautious lot so he has to prove himself not a fraud or an Uncle Tom which amounts to recruiting without flat-out recruiting.
