Official Feats for Animal Companions??

Natural Bond, from ... Complete Adventurer, I think.

Your druid level is treated as up to 3 levels higher (max of your hit dice) for purposes of determining the special abilities of any animal companion you might have.

Note that, unlike familiars, animal companions already have a built-in mechanic for getting better critters: you take a penalty to your effective druid level, and get something more powerful.

... which has a nice synergy with Natural Bond :)

Are there any official feats out there for Animal Compaions (like Improved Familiar)?

Maybe that's of some help:

  • Devoted Tracker; Prereq:Track, Smite evil, Wild empathy; Benefit: Special mount becomes animal companion, and paladin and ranger levels stack for smite evil and wild empathy; Source: Complete Adventurer, p. 108
  • Natural Bond; Prereq: Animal companion; Benefit: Add +3 to effective druid level when determining animal companion's abilities; Source: Complete Adventurer, p. 111
  • Shared Fury; Prereq: Animal companion class feature, Rage class feature, Handle Animal 4 ranks; Benefit: Your animal rages with you; Source: Races of the Wild, p. 152
  • Exalted Companion; Prereq: Ability to acquire a new animal companion, Minimum level requirement (see text); Benefit: Additional animal companion choices; Source: Book of Exalted Deeds, p. 42
  • Mighty Roar; Prereq: Animal or magical beast, Large size; Benefit: Roar 1 per day, opponents shaken; Source: Savage Species, p. 37
  • Greater Mighty Roar; Prereq: Animal or magical beast, Large size, Mighty Roar; Benefit: Roar 1 per day, opponents panicked; Source: Savage Species, p. 35
  • Extra Tricks; Prereq: Animal or magical beast with 1 or 2, Must know at least one trick; Benefit: The creature can learn three more tricks than normal; Source: Complete Adventurer, p. 101

Ability Focus, Flyby Attack, Hover, Improved Natural Attack and Multiattack from the MM are also useful in many cases.
These are great feats, but how do you work giving feats to your animal companion. Treating it like a PC/NPC and leveling up?

Your animal companion gains hit dice as your ranger or druid level increases. This is explained in the Classes chapter of the PHB, under Druid. (Note the Errata: The animal companion stays an animal, it doesn't become a magical beast.)

Does that let them gain new feats?
