OGL vs. non-OGL magazine

I wouldn't want to use the Dragonlance version. With respect, I like my death knights mixed in with Demogorgon.

So do I, but the irony is that - looking purely at mechanics - the death knight template in the MM2 is fairly watered down compared to the 1E/2E versions, whereas the DL version of the template is very faithful to them.

Ideally, one could use the DL death knight template and just add the Demogorgon flavor.

But this is all a threadjacking, since that'll never happen.

The 1E Fiend Folio was my Book of Mormon. If you want Dragonlance, use Dragonlance.*

* I didn't realize the irony of that analogy until I read it a second time.

LMAO!!

Waves to Tracy Hickman with a smile :)

The other option is to completely redesign a classic monster and simply use the name from the open content in the Tome of Horrors.

Lots of ammo there.

 LMAO Yeah I didn't think of that until you mentioned it. That was pretty ironic Erik.

So it will be closer to 1e FF. K. That's fine. Ammo is fine so long as I see a Death Knight I like, not the one in MM2. :p

Steel,

I think I heard that all the way over here in WV. ;)

Al,

Still it could be done. Just wouldn't be able to call it a Death Knight...probably.

In the case of Monster Manual 2, probably better. ;)

Oh, I agree that that's probably better! MMII is the Monster books I look at and say "Hey, that's a neat monster..." until I see that one ability that makes me turn the page sadly, never to look back at the creature.

Personally, I'm converting my subscriptions to Pathfinder.

I'm in the OGL = good thing camp. Probably 70% of what I buy is OGL stuff rather than D&D core. The reason for that I suppose is that it removes the straighjacket that is core D&D's setting & style of play assumptions.

I think Paizo's being very smart about this. If WotC can pull off their "Digital Initiative", that's fine, but until their stuff is as good as or better than the stuff put out by other publishers they'll continue to get a small portion of my RPG budget.

Az,

Yeah I mean I like the guys that do stuff in d20 and WotC, but I'm more inclined to buy d20 than I am WotC. Most of the time.

*Rob's books I have to buy, most of the time*:p

I still keep laughing at the irony of Erik's post about Death Knights. ;)
