Old FR releases guide.....

Fedurian

First Post
Hi Folks!
I'm DMing 3E FR and I really like the new products that are coming out, but I also love the old Fr releases, I think all of the Volos guides kick in!
I browsed around at ebay and found a vast amount of stuff I could buy, now my dilemma: After so many years od AD&D 2nd edition, there are a lot of products about the same stuff, for example, Volos guide to the north, Waterdeep and the north, The North, or Volo's guide to the Dalelands, The Dalelands, same with cormyr.... and then there is the city of splendors, the City System and so on and so on.....
Do you guys have any advice for me or any links where I can find a complete FR product libary with complete description of all items?

Would be really cool
Thanks

IIRC, YMMV, and so on -

City of Splendors was the updated version of the City System and Waterdeep and the North.

That was the one to get. However, it now seems to be a bit expensive.

Volo's guide to the North tended to cover the IceWindDale area while the guide to the Sword Coast tended to cover south of Waterdeep.

You do realize the difference between say Volo's Guide to Waterdeep and the City of Splendors boxed set, right?

Volo's guide just gives some information about what the best inns or bars would be in a given area, while the other products that cover the area would be a more traditional sourcebook - covering political factions, important NPCs, and DM only info.

BTW, have you considered the ESDs from Wizards.com?

Definately look at the ESDs at wizards--there are a TON of Forgotten Realms products from 2e and 1e--good ones too. If you want a guide to Waterdeep, definately go with City of Splendors--it's a great box. Volo's Guides are nothing too spectacular--pick them up if they're cheap I suppose...

http://www.flash.net/~brenfrow/fr/fr.htm has a complete list of every 2e Fr product, along with descriptions for 99% of them.

The main site itself, http://www.flash.net/~brenfrow/index.htm, has an almost complete list of OD&D and AD&D 1 and 2e products, with covers and descriptions for most of them. They also have many 3rd edition products, including both WotC and some d20 publishers.

I use it for product research all the time. Enjoy!

If you really want the whole kit'n'caboodle without doubling up try:

- Waterdeep: only the City of Splendours and Volo's Guide are required; City System and Waterdeep & The North would be redundant purchases.
- The North: The free downloads of The North boxed set and Volo's Guide subsume (and add to) The Savage Frontier and Waterdeep & The North.
- Dalelands: Volo's Guide has basically everything; The Dalelands is not required particularly as you own the FRCS.
- Cormyr: Volo's Guide should be sufficient; the Cormyr accessory is generally considered to be junk (albeit with a nice map).

If you have any more specific questions, just add them here or join the FR mailing list from the WOTC website. The list can be really good, except when topics like Driz'zt, Elminster and TV shows come up... like right at the moment. :)

Cheers

The Volo's guide's are really good. They don't have a lot of game stats in them so the can used with ease in a 3e game. Though they are written for DR 1368/9 so you might have to change a few things but overall they are great.
