This is my most anticipated game of 2005: The Mountain Witch by Timothy Kleinert (Timfire Publishing). It's now available for pre-order at Indie Press Revolution (IPR). Price: $24 I've been waiting for this game to come out for a long time now and it'll be shipping within the next few weeks. This is going to be one of our best-sellers ever, so get your copy now before they sell out! Most of our members do very small print runs, so we've had this happen a few times and it'd take as long as a couple of months before we get more copies. Anyhow, here's a brief introduction of the game from Brennan Taylor... --- Here's the setup: Everyone in the party is a ronin samurai, and they all have agreed to assassinate O-Yanma, the Mountain Witch of Fuji. During chargen, you have to decide why your character is willing to do this, since it is probably suicide. You need the money, there is a blood debt to be paid, etc. Then you meet the rest of the group, perfect strangers, and begin your trek up the mountain. The GM provides some obstacles along the way, dangerous monsters and other samurai in the employ of the Mountain Witch. You have to trust your compatriots, because it is extremely difficult to win conflicts unless you have invested some points in trust for the other ronin in the group. However, the more trust you have given another player, the easier it is for him to screw you over if and when he feels like it. Oh, yeah, you also have a Fate card that tells you your real agenda (not necessarily to kill O-Yanma), and you never know which of the other players may be secretly gunning for you. This game pulls out all of the coolest stuff from samurai movies during play. There are showdowns, beheadings, and dramatic betrayals. Even though the basic setup is the same, each time you play it will come out differently depending on your character's motivations and who you invest your trust in. Very cool. --- Check it out for yourself and enjoy!
