D&D 4E On-line vendors selling 4E early. Time to ditch FLGS?

One of the advantages of purchasing from a FLGS as opposed to ordering on-line is that they'll be selling the product at a particular date. Thus, folks who pre-ordered DnD 4E can reasonable expect it to be at the store on June 6th.

Well, several posts here indicate folks received their on-line copies before the release date from certain on-line sites (*cough* buy.com *cough*). This being the case, is it time to finally abandon FLGS?

I wouldn't blame people for doing that. Money is important and it's nice to have it sooner.

But I would consider supporting your FLGS and waiting a few days more for it, especially if they really are friendly and if they add value to the game by providing a place to play, etc.

I don't have a FLGS nearby, and I miss that.

This may or may not be the actual case, apparently.

The value added that the FLGS offers is not prereleased copies of items. If this is the only valued added you can see beyond the physical copies of the book, then yes you should move to online sellers. If you value communal meeting places, a formal gaming evangelism, etc. then stick with your FLGS.

For the sake of a week you would 'rob' your FLGS of eagerly expected income?

In six months time it won't matter whether you had it now or next week, but it may matter to you if your FLGS is surviving :)

Just a view.

Not only that, but Scott Rouse in the other thread made it subtly clear that Buy.com breaking street date had not gone unnoticed... :)

A week or two early doesn't mean anything. Dance with the gal that brought you. :D

Ain't that the truth. These days, peaople are far too consumed with getting things NOW. Sheesh, it's not much longer, peeps!
