At my D&D Encounters session last Wednesday, the two rogues scouted off ahead, and managed to discover a glyph of warding by the simple method of triggering it. They were both already hurt, and the resultant explosion reduced both to 0 hit points. One of the rogues rolled well on his Death saving throws, but the other rolled poorly, failing his first check. The other PCs couldn't get to the rogues right away because there were Cultists of the Dragons in the way (they were rolling really well for their Deception checks and bluffing their way past)... and so before he could be stabilized, the rogue rolled a natural 1 and died. Given we're playing AL material, and it was going to be very, very difficult to get to civilisation from where they were, this meant he'd have to roll up a new character. So, as we continued the session (with the rest of the group fast-talking the Elf leader of the cultists), he began to create his new character. Only to stop and realise: "Hey, I'm a halfling! I'm Lucky!" After a break for a few minutes of laughing, I allowed him to reroll the save. This time he succeeded, and so we allowed him to stabilise. The group still has a lot of cultists to worry about, but they've still got his rogue. :) I love this game!
