You come across the following advertisement posted at a crossroads: "Do you seek a short and painful but exciting life of prosperity? The fearsome wizard GOLOCK is hiring HENCHMEN to fight the evil menace haunting Shan Mountain and perform other tasks as needed. Applicants must be stout-hearted adventurers who supply their own equipment. Compensation will be 20 gold pieces per month in addition to lodgings in his dreaded tower. Henchmen will receive a share of all reward prizes, and may keep all authorized loot! Expect frequent travel. Apply in person during daylight hours at the dreaded tower northwest of Ichiba. Undead or married persons not allowed!" Jiangu is an empire that is located in the land of myth and faerie tales. Recently the imperial palace in the territory of Dian, high atop Shan Mountain, was attacked by a murderous spirit. It has been haunted ever since. Undead spirits infested the entire territory of Dian and drove away the residents. These evil undead feed upon those with good karma. This has turned their territory into a haven for all manner of scoundrels and dishonorable creatures. The empire is now plunged into chaos. The lands of the empire are divided among several competing warlords. Their campaigning armies ravage the countryside. Evil bands from the haunted territory raid the provinces of the heartland. There is no power to restrain the primitive forces of the frontier that surround the empire. Our PBEM has been running for almost 2 years, and we have some vacancies due to attrition. Once they finish the current adventure, it looks like we will have at least 3 active characters continuing to the next adventure: A bard, a ranger, and a cleric, ranging from 2nd to maybe 4th level (if they all survive, of course). It will probably take them at least a few more weeks to finish the current adventure. I hope to have a few new players set up with characters and ready to join by then. The campaign world is my own creation, with plenty of input from the players. The general culture and ambience of the setting is Asian, with some western elements as well. LINK to the Yahoo Group Site of the Campaign The game is CORE RULES ONLY (No supplements. No "Complete.." or "Races of.." anything. Just the SRD). Stats are 32 pt. buy. Starting XP are awarded for character background. A detailed background can award enough XP to start at 2nd level. The XP awards are as follows: A motive for solving the campaign mission (other than revenge). If you do not provide a motive, then the DM must create one for your character = 100xp A long-term quest or goal for the character (separate from the campaign mission) = 50xp A detailed description of the character's family = 50xp An enemy who may appear in future adventures = 50xp each Full class/race/stats for the enemy = +100xp each An unsolved mystery = 50xp each Creating and describing a new region, territory, or settlement = 50xp each Drawing maps &/or floorplans for the new area = +100xp each Creating and describing a new sect or organization for the campaign world = 50xp each Background is tied into the background of another character = 50xp Sending the DM an original drawing of the character = 50xp Designating a specific instrumental tune (no lyrics) as the character's personal soundtrack- any style of music = 50xp The rest of the rules for character generation, etc are located in the files section. The files section also has the complete transcript from the first adventure. The second adventure (so far) can be read from the message archives. You are welcome to read the story so far, but it isn’t necessary to join the group. After all, your character probably wouldn’t know it.
