back story part II Slowly climbing to his feet, Aaerdon looked for a weapon as the great cat began to circle closer. The hammer was too far. No loose rock of any size was close. In desperation, hi grasps the iron chain in his large calloused hands. He pulls. With the desperation born of the eternal will to live, he pulls. The links twist then break, leaving a fifteen foot length of heavy iron chain in his hands. With a grim smile, he turns to face the great beast... Hours later, he is brought to the one of the barracks belonging to soldiers of the city. He is brought before an officer with hard eyes and and even harder voice. This was the second watcher. Aaerdon is given a choice, enlist and learn to be a soldier or be executed. His strength and ability to endure has embarrassed the judge who sentenced him. His killing of the desert lion has put fear into those who must guard him. This cannot go on. This is a second chance. A chance to become a real man and give up the life of ignorance and ready violence. The choice is made. The shackles removed. Aaerdon is now a soldier. Over the next few years, he is transformed into a man with skill and, more importantly, with principles. His sheer power and ability to wield a chain become a barracks legend. He prospers, He grows content with his new life. But men such as he are not destined to be content and fate intervenes. The judge who tried and sentenced him has prospered as well. He bode his time to revenge himself on the oaf who made a joke of his judgment. Aaerdon id offered and encouraged to accept a promotion to junior officer. A scratch unit is formed for his command. They are sent on a patrol outside the city. When the patrol is ambushed by brigands a butchered, Aaerdon and the survivors are cashiered in disgrace. They are tossed like the day's refuse into the streets. No money, no thanks, and no hope. Aaerdon's reputation brigs offers of employment very quickly. He will offer his strength and skill to those who can help him become independent. He is leery of being in a position to be betrayed again, but craves having comrades and a purpose. He will offer his loyalty to those who earn it this time, not to someone he is ordered to obey. His abilities are great and his strength matched only by the depths of his fear of being in charge...or being alone. ---> Well, that's my character's background. There should be enough hooks to bring me into the group. See you all soon <----
