Don't worry about "playing it out." My Ravenloft philosophy is that it is a game of choices. It is what we choose to do that determines what we are, and that is ultimately more important than what happens. For example, I'm not going to set someone on a Path of Darkness as a plot point, but as a result of what is chosen by the PCs through the players. If you're worried about being graphic, then just tone down the language. The way I've discussed the "pets," for example. I've specifically made sure I'm not talking about them in prurient terms, both because this place should remain somewhat family-friendly, and because your mind fills in the blanks with situations that are more specifically emotionally powerful to yourself. Marionette seems sick and wrong on the surface, and the more you think about it, the sicker and wronger it seems. By the way, I love the way Darian took to Suki. It makes it a lot more fun! As for in-character unnerving the party, that's perfectly acceptable. Sometimes, social pressure is all that prevents us from acting in a base manner. If the social pressure keeps us in line, then it's doing its job. It's when the actor no longer cares about society that we all must worry. But yeah, everyone is dealing with their inner monster in different ways. Darian lives with it daily. Ru tries to keep it in the past. Fr. Berman tries giving it rules to follow. Torhan tries to twist it out of existence with technicalities. Calahan embraces the inner monster, but tries to keep it too disorganized to be effective. At least, that's the way I've seen it, and kudos to everyone for giving your characters such interesting personalities. It's made the game a heck of a lot of fun.
