Message: <blockquote data-quote="FalcWP" data-source="post: 3868419" data-attributes="member: 16858">Well, from what Roy's mom said, it really sounds as if Eugene was, in his youth (and life) a man of rather intense passions.  That when something struck him as being important, it was *all* important.  Winning Sara's heart was very, very important to him... for a time.  Defeating Xykon and avenging his master was very, very important to him... for a time.  He might logically have known that he wouldn't or couldn't complete that quest, but if, for a period of time, he thought it was the most important thing in the world, he'd swear that oath.As for forsaking it, changing gods, etc.  Its entirely possible that he *couldn't*.  You swear a blood oath, to the death and beyond, there may not be an escape clause.  This isn't like signing a cell phone contract, where you can pay money and leave if you want to... its serious.  And its also possible that Eugene never wanted to forsake that oath because that wouldn't be Lawful and might not be Good, either.  He obviously thinks that he's Lawful Good, despite a lot of evidence to the contrary, and there's a big difference between dying while the oath is still on the table (even if you're deliberately not pursuing it, which he wasn't) and actively going and trying to get out of said oath.  The first probably isn't Lawful; the second pushes you over towards Chaotic.</blockquote>
