The good news is that The Oracle won't help Xykon find his phylactery (or otherwise try to conquer the world).

Probably because The Gods (including Tiamat) know about the Gates and what Xykons plan is (since Cloister doesn't block divine-level scrying), hence helping it would NOT be in Tiamat's best interest to help him.

Edit: Also, from a worldbuilding perspective we got a bigger picture of the Western pantheon. We already knew that Tiamat (from the Oracle) and Marduk (from the crayon-scribbles) were part of it, but exactly which mesopotamian deities/legends are part of the pantheon got a little clearer. Ishtar, Ereshkigal and Nergal are in the pantheon, and that the followers of the various deities battle often over petty things. Also we learned more about Tiamats followers: that lizardfolk aren't favored and they don't favor strong governments and Empires (I guess this version of Tiamat is NOT Lawful Evil, since you'd think that is a traditional LE stance).

Death really should be TN. I like having neutral death gods that don't take sides, just fullfill their part of the circle of life. And have an intense hatred of the undead, for breaking that cycle. Death gods using undead NEVER made sense to me. Repose domain FTW!

I don't know...for some reason no game I've ever been in with Tiamat or followers of her has seemed very LE, sometimes they're almost chaotic. Maybe people think a CE alignment would make a flavorful foe for the LG Bahamut?

[sblock]All I know is, LE is my favorite alignment, and yet I hate Tiamat's guts. My character hating her passionately and either refusing to ever do anything for her side or if he has to, taking the opportunity to undermine her church from within, is one of the universal traits all of my characters possess.[/sblock]

In my previous game, the goddess of Death was Lawful Neutral.

She ruled over Death, Knowledge, Moon, Seas, Winter, and Magic.

There were no evil gods in my campaign. There were arch-fiends who acted like gods, but they clearly weren't, because gods didn't live in Hell or the Abyss. Also, because the arch-fiends had stats. ;)

I suppose it depends on the role of the death god. Is he or she just part of the natural order, or do they rule over death as an enemy of living mortals?

What you're describing would be a god of UNdeath, though...

Especially in a world like D&D, where the afterlife is totally real and you for the most part go where you belong/deserve when you die, it seems kind of silly to treat the force of death as something that's antagonistic towards mortals and the enemy of good.

I guess there's also room for a god that just plain relishes extinguishing life. But should be the abnormality, not the neutral death god that's just a part of the natural order. And yet, in D&D, guess which one is represented in core and more in depth overall?

That's what I'm talking about. Not the judge of the dead, or some guy who's part of the whole life/death/rebirth shebang, but a jerkass god that gets his kicks slaughtering mortals and spreading sorrow just because he can.

Back to the strip, I thought it kind of funny that Durkon couldn't stand whatever Malack was drinking and had to doctor it up. But otherwise, this does feel like filler, particularly since Rich has that whole arena fight set up. Come on, don't tease us, get to the action already! ;)

Its not that he is teasing us, he needed to make this comic because it gives the perfect space to explain when the "homo erotic relationship that will not be explored in depth" will take place.

Also let us all pray for the Brave Liver's for they died fighting the good fight!
