Open Design 4: Arabian Adventures

If you like Steampunk or the old Al'Qadim setting/Necromancer Guide, check out Wolfgang Baur's Open Design 4 project. The following options are up for choice:

-Option 1: Six Arabian Nights (an adventure anthology in an Arabian Adventures setting think Indian Jones meets Clark Ashton Smith )
-Option 2: Adventures in Zobeck, Part 1 (Steampunk accessory)

A donation of $25 will get you insight and input into the design process on Wolfgang's forums and the finished pdf product. (The first option to clear the requested toal will be implemented. If you supported the other option you will get a full refund.)

I put my money in for the Arabian Adventures project, because i love the Al'Qadim material that Wolfgang wrote and also the old Dragon article "Scimitars against the Dark".

Edit: Option 1 it is and I'm glad. You can still get on board if you want to. It seems it's going to be something like Well of Worlds/Tales from the Infinite Staircase type thing rather than an uberdungeon. Some small interlocking stuff with general theme, a few mechanics/monsters and lots of flavour.

Now if you have an idea for an Arabian short adventure Wolfgang is stilll missing some cowriters.

OD3, Empire of the Ghouls, was my first time involved, and it was really fascinating to see the process at every step of the way and to kibbitz on minor points.

I already own the softcover version of OD2, thanks to upgrading my sponsorship, and am eagerly looking forward to holding Empire in my hands one day soon.

If anyone's on the fence about this process, I found it to be very rewarding. Only the arrival of a new baby has me on the fence about supporting OD4. If I don't, I'll be back for OD5, which will presumably be the first 4E one.

Empire of the Ghouls was my first time with Wolfgang's crew too, and it was a lot of fun. I'm definitely looking forward to the Arabian adventure. Perhaps I'll go dust off my as-yet-unread Burton Arabian Nights soon....

Only patrons will get it.

Note that is patrons of any project will be able to get it. There is a fee. Basically, you can buy it if you are a patron of the project, or while you are a patron of future projects (until Wolfgang decides that he's sold enough that selling more will make it no longer "limited edtition").

So, in addition to the patron fee, you also buy the module? What do the total costs end up being?

Ummm...sort of, depending. Let me give an example with the upcoming project.

1) Cost #1: Open Design Project #4 (Arabian Adventures) - $100/$50/$25 depending on participation level. Input into design, peek into design, additional design essays, PDF of project.

2) Cost #2: Print copy of OD4 (Arabian Adventures) - If you want a print copy you can buy it at LuLu. Wolfgang has it put up at cost (as he already got his money from Cost #1), so the cost is what LuLu charges for printing and shipping.

3) Cost #3: Back copy of previous projects. Price will vary, I think Shadowcrag was $25 to Empire of Ghouls members for the PDF, but Empire of Ghouls will likely be higher, as it's MUCH LARGER. For a brief time Shadowcrag was available in print to Empire of Ghouls patrons, and was much a much higher cost (due to LuLu's structure), I imagine Empire of Ghouls will work the same for OD4 members.

Note that OD1 (Steam & Brass) isn't available to any patrons of other projects, because it was created under a different agreement.

No, the patron fee gets you the product in PDF at no additional cost.

On past projects, Wolfgang has sold a print copy from Lulu at cost (which usually isn't a whole lot, I forget how much I paid for a print copy of Shadowcrag but it was definitely less than an average adventure of that size off the shelf).

However, Glyfair's comment might be in reference to if you are a patron of one project, possibly having to pay more for the result of a different project. For example if you up for Open Design 4: Arabian Nights now, but want a copy of Open Design 3: Empire of the Ghouls, as well. Since I've been a patron of all of them, I haven't bothered to look into the details of those, but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a small fee to get older products. Otherwise just wait to sign up until Open Design 10 and get a whole stack of products really cheap.

But, I do know that if you are a patron for a certain project, the PDF of that project is included at no extra cost. A print copy is typically available at cost.

Hopefully somewhere in there between our replies is the answer to your question. :) If not, just say so.

Edit: Took too long to type my reply and I see Glyfair already responded.
