Open Grave Excerpts: Kas the Betrayer

No way, this guy is way too scrawny and wimpy to be Liefeld's work... but the picture doesn't really seem to fit with what I think of when Kas comes to mind. Bad enough they recycled a piece for him, but they definitely picked the wrong one.

I guess they couldn't fit or didn't like the picture of Kas that was in Dragon back when they did the Vestige article for him. That was a full-body pic of him with sword and everything.

Not a big fan of the art either, though using some recycled art isn't a big deal to me. I mean, I look at an article like the creature incarnations article. How much does it cost to pay artists to bang out the four pieces there? It can't be cheap. This is an 8 page article with four well detailed pieces.

I am not an artist, so maybe one of you can tell me. How long does it take to do one from idea to finished product (man-hours and calendar days)? How many rounds of "show it to WOTC and then make revisions" before you are done?

You'd be surprised.

Now that I know the art on this is recycled I'm less impressed. Ari did you write that Kas? If so or not, giving Kas a magic mask is an interesting development that I like.

Yeah, Vecna is in it. He's listed in the table of contents.

Ah, thanks! I hadn't noticed the TOC posted there before. It'll be interesting if they slowly give us the stats for all of the gods over the course of the next few years. Bahamut's pretty much a given then for Draconomicon 2. :D

Yea, the one piece of art isn't that good, but the write-up on a whole is really cool.
