The Great Hundred project has begun:

http://www.greathundred.org

The project is designed to produce an open content system-independent exotic fantasy supplement. The supplement will take the 120 best entries from the project, along with art donated to the project, and produce a free .pdf and at-cost POD.

We're looking for new contributors, editors, and pundits, to help us create short entries, which will make up the pages of the eventual .pdf and POD. Several entries have already been provided, along with a map (which some of you will recognize as Chuck McCann's Ravennia). These are then polished up by the community according to the guidelines we've established, and then they can be nominated as "gold-star" entries. Once we have approximately 120 nominated entries, we'll change gears into production and put out the final product.

Once the project is complete we will all have a new fantasy setting that we can use however we want for our own projects, whatever they may be. Check it out! Then tell me: What do you think?

Sounds cool. Want some art for it? I don't make any promises but if me and my gf find enough time, we could contribute by drawing something up.

Absolutely! Art would great - just be aware that like text contributions you'll be under the same licenses. Other people will be able to remix, use it in their projects, and so on. The upside is that you will also have all this stuff to remix, use in your projects, and so on. :)

that's about what I expected. We'll see if we have anything. No promises though. She's working on her craduation work and since I'm not nearly as good with drawing coupled with my perfectionism, it takes forever for me to get anything done.

There's room for all sorts of methods, you can come in, comment, leave for a while, come back, write a few paragraphs, leave for awhile, drop some art in, whatever. The project is very flexible from the perspective of new contributors.

That said, I am hoping to find some more active contributors to comment, criticize, add, and edit the ideas so we can get them into shape. :)

Now that I can at least do. I'll bookmark your page and pop in once in a while ;) .

Nice to see you get off your duff and actually do something with this, Ryan. :p
Yeah, I tried to avoid it, but the idea was just too good to leave in the dark.

Bump - I shouldn't have characterized it as exotic, the system has distinctive flavor but modularity is more central to the concept.

In fact, it would be easy to take most of the entries out and put them straight into a Dune-like sci-fi game, a Tigana-like world, or an Eberron island.
