Opinions and experiences on playing constructs (droids-soulmechs-warforged-etc.)?

Well, I recently got Grim Tales and decided to create a campaign setting to run a campaign with it. Since that game includes rules for playing in a fantasy setting, as well as in a "post-apocalyptic futuristic" one with cyberware enhancements, I try to create a setting that would mix both.

Anyway, I gathered a few character races of the normal living humanoid type, but also want something different. I thus came to the idea that maybe a construct-like race could be cool. A type of Android / Soulmech (Dragonstar) / Warforged (Eberron) / or what not race. However, I really cannot decide if it's a good idea to implement them in my campaign or not...

So, I would be glad to get your opinions and/or experiences on playing such kind of races. Do you think they are cool? Is there some inherent problem (game mechanics or role-play) in playing what is basically a robot? Do you have suggestions? (and by the way, could someone tell me of the racial traits of the Warforged?).

Thanks

The only time I played a robot was in a sci fi game. My robot was the ships engineer and in love with the ship's warp drive.

I've never really see someone play a droid in Star Wars, altho the option was there. It might be fun for a one shot, but for a campaign, I suppose, it grows boring pretty fast, unless the construct acts like a human being, of course. Then it's just like a human with a construct body and maybe some quirks coming with that kind of fusion.

Soulmechs (Dragonstar) are supposed to be souls inside a mechanical body, thus a "human with a construct body and maybe some quirks coming with that kind of fusion". Maybe the same comment applies to Warforged from the few things I have read here and there.

However, the same thing could probably be said about elves: humans with pointed ears who love magic and woodlands; dwarves: short humans who can see in the dark and love work and gold. But I am open to any suggestion for doing something original from a roleplaying perspective.

You first have to understand the questons your character will never understand. You have to forget the answeres you know

Why do the Flesh value the pair bond they call love?

Why do the Flesh place such priority on children?

Is the world logical?

Why do the flesh think they go to another world when they stop functioning?
...If they do, will I go there as well if i stop functioning?

Why are the Flesh not made more durable by thier creator?

Why do some Flesh behave so diffrently from other Flesh?

Am i just another tool to the Flesh?
