Opinions of Hollowfaust: City of Necromancers?

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about
Hollowfaust... is it worth it, what's it cover, etc, etc?
I'm thinking about including a necromancer city in my
Forgotten Realms game, and if Hollowfaust is any good, it
would save me a ton of work. Thanks in advance.

Other than "Me want! Me want!"; none at the moment. Waiting for my local RPG peddler to get it for me.

Yup, Nightfall has converted me to a Scarred Lands fanboy. The Dark Side is tempting...

Hollowfaust (short)

It's a good book, comes with several prestige classes for every class, some new spells and feats. The only problem I have with the printing I own (don't know if they've done multiple printings yet) is that it is riddled with editing errors--from grammar, spelling, and incomplete or repeated words to entire segments of necessary data (i.e. spell descriptions, rules, etc.). If you can overlook those flaws, it should be a good purchase for you--just don't expect it to be perfect, and don't expect the usual, uber-evil group of necromancers. These are fleshed out personalities, templates, etc. that tend to wallow in gray areas that defy alignment categories, etc. They aren't cackling, bone-faced, undead-surrounded cliches that play with dead bodies and dabble in demonic rites, etc.

Hollowfaust is the only d20 product I've bought in the last couple of months. I really enjoyed it. Even if you're not running a Scarred Lands campaign (sorry Nightfall :D) it can be adapted easily enough. It is not the stereotypical den of evil mages bent on world conquest you might imagine. It is more like a den of creepy dark mages who want the city to run peacefullly and smoothly so they can carry on with their work.

Not that you couldn't make them seem that way. Any particular Necromancer can be an evil bastard, and on field trips away from the city would seem to have the full support of the city, at least untill he started endangering the city as a whole.

If that happened your PCs would be very confused when they tracked him back to the city and found it to be in the middle of a festival.

I'm quite please with what I got for my money.

Don't worry guys. My group just died so it's unlikely that I'll get to campaign in SL or anywhere else for that matter.

Hollowfaust DOES have some very glaring errors (some of which I blame on the people in charge of the layout, not the actual editing), BUT what it does offer is a different view about necromancers and their practices. I do think though Nemorga is a better god of the dead and death than Kelvmor. Though Jergal is a good replacement, but not as much. In any case, what it lacks in editing and format, story wise and crunchy stuff, MORE than makes up for it in my mind.
