Opinions on a few DarkSun products wanted...

First Post
My FLGS has some old Dark Sun products on sale, about as cheap as getting the ESD's and I really prefer paper:)

What I would like is the opinion of the Dark Sun fans out there, are they any good, and what are their merits?
If I were to get one or two, which ones should I get?

Please note, that I do not intend to run a full Dark Sun campaign, but rather use the stuff as an idea mine for my homebrew.

The products are:

City by the Silt Sea
Dragon's Crown
Forest Maker
Marauders of Nibenay
Mind Lords of the Last Sea

I ran a DS game for about 3 years so hopefully I can help you out.

City by the Silt Sea: Probably your best bet for getting ideas for your own game. Many goodies in that box.

Dragons Crown: Good adventure and depending on what you're looking for may have a few tidbits that you could use, especiallly if you use psionics.

Forest Maker: Decent adventure, not sure there would be a whole lot you could use outside of DS though.

Marauders of Nibenay: I've never read this adventure no feedback for you on this one :-( .

Mind Lords of the Last Sea: I doubt highly you could find anything too useful in this one. I bought it and there wasn't anything I could use in my DS campaign let alone a homebrew game.

Hope this helps ya.

Thanks!
Yeah, I kinda figured from the short descriptions that City by the Silt Sea would be the most useful and interesting, plus you get quite a lot of stuff for $8.65 (60 Danish Kroner)

If anyone else has more to add, I wouldn't mind:)

City by the sea of silt has a very nice background, but the scenario is a tad, too much to believe, at least the lower portion of it. The first half of the scenario is a great alternative to the usual ruins exploration.
Forest maker can't be adapted outside DS (and a L13 scenario, where your ennemy is a 21st level mage/21st level psion, is asking for trouble...)
Marauder of Nibenay: tough to adapt, you need a town ruled by a god-like mage living in a "forbidden city" and a group of mage rebel... On top of that it's mostly a weird dungeon.
Mind lord of the last sea: interesting scenario, but the setting is not medieval (think australian surfers ruled by Staline, in a quasi-modern society that use psionic power in their crafts...)

Thanks abri.

"Mind Lord of the Last Sea" sounds...funky/weird/silly/stupid!

By the looks of it, I should probably get "City by the Sea of Silt" and perhaps "Dragon's Crown"

More input is welcome.

City by the Silt Sea- very good can be inserted with some some work into most campaigns though Dregoth may require major work (49+ level villian)
Dragon's Crown- very good but can lead to campaign altering effects that last FOREVER. May require DM fudging once in a while
Forest Maker- okay story. deals with a 22+ level villian however
Marauders of Nibenay- I liked it but it does have a bit of a Darksun feel to it.
Mind Lords of the Last Sea- where to begin...oh yeah- this is what killed the campaign world. Nude beaches and hippy wind boarding druids didn't do it for me.

Dark sun products

City by the silt sea is the best buy there, with Dragon's Crown coming in a close second. I personally wouldn't own City by the Silt Sea as a Dark Sun purist (basically the killed the original dragon off in the novels and needed a way to revive a similiar beastie so walla you have the undead dragonking everyone forgot about one level below thw original dragon - lame) but as for its content, it has the most to offer a homebrew. Dragon's crown is a mega adventure that is well put together with nice supplements. I would get Maruders of Nibinay also, but avoid the rest. Mind lords should never have been made, it is utter trash with very little of use from it.
