I like them, they are funny and informative.

It also reminds me of things that have happened in my D&D experiences and I have shared some similar views on the game to. Plus it pokes fun at itself, which I like alot (people take things to seriously).

Her writing style is also quite nice for this format, it is more casual, conversational. When reading, I feel like I am "listening" to someone retailing a story.

I like it. I adopt Mazinoble's theory that she and I are distantly related, because we share some of the same 'weirdness.'

Anyway, some crunchy things for those who don't care to read it:
- Familiars! Wizards get them!
- Point Buy Stat System
- As assumed, spells are classified under Powers
- New Powers: (At Will) Fireblast, Magic Missile, (Per Encounter) Burning Hands, and (Per Day) Sleep
- New feats: Ferocious Rebuke, and possibly 'Hellfire blood'
- Somebody actually chooses Toughness for a Feat! HOORAY!

I thought this was one of the best 4e articles we've gotten so far, largely because it drops some juicy 4e details without specifically focusing on "selling" the new mechanics too much.

The prose is also great, of course. Kind of a fun "average player" perspective on starting a new 4e character.

I voted "They're Good." After reading today's column, I plan on borrowing my girlfriend's copy (once I give it to her for Xmas, that is).

I voted 'alright.' For me, they're entertaining, but not nearly as entertaining as they attempt to be. I do like Shelly's writing enough that I bought her book for my girlfriend, who also happens to be a "girly girl" who likes designer handbags, and who no one would expect to play D&D. She is enjoying the book so far and now she wants rose quartz dice. Go figure. At least she's been happily playing D&D for two years now, whereas when we first met she swore she'd never try it.

Even though I find Shelly's chattiness a little forced sometimes, she's still a better writer than most of the other people writing for Dragon these days.
