Adventure Name: Opportunity Knocks V
DM: Emiricol
Level(s): (of Participants) 1st/2nd
Region: Middle Lands
Kingdom: Mittendein
Date/Time: Sunday, July 11th (not July 4th!), 12pm-5pm Pacific (3pm-7pm Eastern)
Expected Duration of this session: 3-5 hours
Format: 1-shot adventure, played via OpenRPG (www.openrpg.com) - virtual tabletop gaming software (Windows, Linux, Mac)
Adventure Plug: The Kaiser of Mittendein has ordered the construction of a fortress where the town of Tillich was razed by goblins several years ago. The work there is progressing well and commoners are returning to the area under the protection of the Mittendein army. Strange events are beginning to take place in the area, which has attracted adventurous people as well.
In the first adventure, the party whacked a squad of goblins and uncovered a potentially valuable clue - a bit of parchment with a note written in Thusesti, but in the Ulruz style. What is an Ulruzian doing talking to goblins in Mittendein? And why did the goblins have tribal markings unfamiliar to anyone in the region?
In the second adventure, it was discovered that there was a band of goblins led by a hobgoblin Centurion (Ulruz native?) gathering forces to take the border fort under construction, but at odds with a druid in the area who also wanted to take the fort, but to destroy rather than conquer. The group managed to survive an encounter with six goblins, and now must venture forth. Their mission? Not to slay goblins, but to return with intelligence.
In the third adventure, the party nearly encountered something the night they slept in the goblin camp, but whoever it was heard them and faded back, disguising their tracks quite well. The next day the group headed south once more, and encountered an ancient and powerful Dryad. To prove their friendliness, Leena the barbarian allowed the Dryad to cast a spell upon her, which compelled her to view the Dryad as her best friend. The Dryad, convinced their mission was in her best interest, gave the group the information she knew about the strength and disposition of the goblins - there are nearly 50 of them, or were, and they are holed up in the ruins of old Tillich!
In the fourth adventure, the party lost Fenbrethil and picked up a gnome sorceress named Narilynn. They accepted a mission to scout several days to the north in an effort to confirm or disprove the rumors of frost giants to the north of Mittendein. On the way they encountered the scene of an ancient battle, and fought several skeletons, but learned how to avoid their mounds and clearings. They also fought a couple wild boars, which they quickly returned to town with to trade for good food, good ale, and fine accomodations, before setting out once more to scout the north.
Restrictions: 3.5 rules; no CN or evil; PK-
Official Participants: (Pending confirmation)
ADVENTURE COMPLETED
Participants: PCs T'ahl, Sathisis, Narilynn.
XP each: 300
Summary: The group returned to where they had killed the animals, and pressed on. They were caught in a horrible thunderstorm with high winds, but Sathisis' knowledge of survival ensured no one died - though Narilynn did suffer from exposure, and took a day to recover. While there, they found a shallow grave containing the bodies of six goblins - four locals and two seemingly from Ulruz. Based on the clothes and wounds, and the fact that the bodies were buried, they decided the Ulruz group won. Throughout their travels they would come across the goblin tracks here and there until...
Pressing on, the party followed the river Olderfen. Near where it bends west they came across a woodsman's hut, and contacted him. His wife and son were dead, killed by the very same goblins they had been travelling behind. After helping the man bury his family, he told them the goblins had headed north east into eastern Thoradur, apparently cutting across the corner of their territory towards the wildnerness once more.
The woodsman was curious about this, since there were giants up there! The party had its first real indication of the situation with the giants, who apparently were battering the Dwarves but leaving the lands of Men alone.
The group camped in his barn for the night, to set out once more in the morning.
