As a matter of statistics it was eventually going to happen; but with the two wandering farther and farther away from the remainder of civilization, one day brings them upon a pod of marsh lizards, the known danger of the marsh.</p><p></p><p>Lizards, though they can hide, tend to signal their intention to attack by emitting a loud, higher pitched, noise, almost like a longer version of a bird of prey call. The cry immediately alerts the two boys, though they never before heard it. Encountered as pods with up to 6 members, of which only 1 will be male, marsh lizards are initially aggressive and territorial but will seek to flee if hurt.
