 Fight On for ol' SC Our men Fight On to victory Our Alma Mater dear, looks up to you Fight On and win For ol' SC Fight On to victory FIGHT ON! A couple of thoughts... First, the Sooners had no business being in the national championship game last year or this year. They played a sloppy game against an equally sloppy LSU team in the 2004 Sugar Bowl while SC systematically demolished Michigan in the Rose Bowl. There was a reason that SC won the AP title and picked up a few coaches' votes as well, despite the contract with the BCS for the coaches' poll. This year Bob Stoops was outplayed once again, but instead of a scrambling LSU quarterback making the most of broken plays due to an abject failure to execute by the offense, they faced a relentless, balanced offense run by a poised leader. Personally I think Stoops is overrated, and I think that's going to be even more apparent next year when he loses over a dozen seniors. Second, SC had to revamp its O-line and lost its best receiver, but still managed to get the job done thirteen times with the dire monkey on its back - they were the DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPS. OU, Auburn, Texas - none of those teams had to carry that pressure and meet those expectations, but SC stayed loose all year, bent but never broke, and got the crystal ball that shoulda/woulda been theirs last year, too. And they did it WIRE-TO-WIRE! Third, enough of the East Coast Bias. From Week 1 I listened to the commentators say that SC wasn't a legitimate number one - the knuckleheads at ESPN wanted to drop SC to number 4 after the game with Cal! - while extolling the virtues of OU and later Auburn and Texas (that barely beat a less-than-inspired Michigan squad in the Rose Bowl). These hacks exposed themselves as band-wagon jumpers of the worst kind, and now we can watch them fall all over themselves tomorrow morning either (a) saying that SC "proved itself" in the Orange Bowl or (b) playing the role of Bob Stoops' apologists. SC proved itself all season, ignoring the slings and arrows of the partisan press. (Wow it felt good to get that off my chest at last!) Fourth and last, SC may return something like 15 or 16 starters next year, and is poised to have some amazing recruiting years in the near future. I won't use the D-word yet, but watch out next season... FIGHT ON!
