Presented for thoughts, opinions, and whatnot. The PC party has been hired by some "shady sorts" to retrieve this item from where it rests. Unknown to them, however, the PC with the most doubts about the mission was contacted and asked to destroy the orb. In this adventure, it acts mostly to give the PCs a goal and a hostile setting (lots of half-dragons around...) Orb of Dragons Spell dragons are hatched from eggs, which are corporeal until hatched. Rarely, unscrupulous spellcasters fashion a spell dragon’s egg into a powerful magic item, an orb of dragons. This process does not kill the spell dragon, which continues to age inside the orb, but does prevent it from hatching. An unhatched spell dragon cannot perceive the world outside its egg, and remains asleep until hatched. An orb of dragons is a shimmering white sphere between 6 inches and 6 feet in diameter (6 inches per age category). Orbs may be either active or quiescent. An orb becomes active when touched by a living or undead creature, and ceases to be active when a 30 days have passed since it was last touched by a living or undead creature. Orbs of dragons are extremely fragile. They have a hardness of 0 and hit points equal to the age category of the spell dragon they contain. A broken orb of dragons immediately loses all powers and frees the dragon inside. An active orb of dragons attracts dragons, dragonkin, and half-dragons to its location constantly, with a range of 10 miles per age category. Creatures vulnerable to this compulsion must make a Will save vs DC 10 every 24 hours or begin moving towards the orb’s location. Once within a mile of the orb of dragons, the attraction ceases. Creatures attracted travel at a comfortable pace, and do not take unwarranted risks. An orb of dragons cannot be touched or manipulated via spells by dragons, half-dragons, dragonkin, or any other creature vulnerable to its powers. The wielder (the last person to touch the orb within 30 days) of an orb of dragons gains the ability to speak with all dragons, half-dragons, and dragonkin. They are treated as though under a sanctuary spell by all dragons, half-dragons, and dragonkin, with no saving throw. Attacking a dragon, half-dragon, or dragonkin ends the effect with regard to the attacked creature only. The wielder of an orb can cast suggestion at will on any creature attracted to the orb of dragons. The suggestion has a DC of 12 + Charisma modifier of the spell dragon inside the orb. This does not count as an attack for purposes of ending the sanctuary effect. Once per week the wielder of an orb can cast dominate monster on any dragon, half-dragon, or dragonkin within range. The target must succeed on a Will save against a DC of 19 + Charisma modifer of the spell dragon within the orb or fall victim to the domination. This does not count as an attack for purposes of ending the sanctuary effect. Caster level: 17th; Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Enlarge Spell, comprehend languages, dominate monster, sanctuary, suggestion, sympathy; Market Price: 633,500 gp. Cheers Nellisir
