Organizing a Gameday

randomling

First Post
So I've heard of Ohio Gameday, Chicago Gameday, Southern California Gameday, and a number of others. If memory serves, Crothian and Mark organized the gamedays in Ohio and Chicago respectively.

I can't make it to games in Chicago and Ohio and California, so I was wondering how hard it would be to put together a London Gameday. Could anyone who's been involved in running a gameday let me know what they found to be involved? How much work is it? How long does it take? Is it out-of-your-own-pocket expensive? Crothian/Mark?

Note: this is NOT an "I'm organizing a London Gameday" thread! It is merely speculative.

Thanks in advance guys.

The hardest part for the Ohio gameday orginally was finding a place and setting a date. But those are steps three and four. Step one is find out if yopu have enough people intersted who would come to the Gameday. Step two is getting the right people so you have DMs to run games.

The Ohio Gameday was cheep to put together. We had a student at the local University get us a nice comfernece room to play in for free. People just had to get here, buy food, and some spent the night as their drive was long.

PC has run several out of his house. You only need enough people to fill one game. Find the interest level, pick a date and then determine the where from there. I only attend the gatherings and have never organized.

I agree with those guys. :D

Find out roughly how many people might be interested. Settle on a day, maybe a couple/few months down the road. Look for a game shop (or other place) with enough room for all of the folks. Most likely you can find one for free. Then start a thread and keep the schedule updated in the first post of the thread (maybe model the schedule on one of the other gameday threads). Mostly runs itself after that, so just look forward to the fun. :)

Wow -- thanks for the quick responses, guys! :D

The thing is I'm not at all sure about venues. The gaming stores I know are all pretty small or highly commerical, and I don't think my parents would appreciate a large number of gamers overrunning their house for a day! ;)

I don't want to promise something and then be unable to deliver.

But, OK. Let me see....
