Playtested some Fri night using the 1st lvl PCs from DnDXP. Used some of your critters (the ones had minis for) for an eg of combat before playing one of those free adventures posted here at Enworld. PCs had to go to wizards house and find out why he didn;t show for important meeting. Entry hall with balcony...wind sprite appeared and attacked from balcony, earthen defender was in a footlocker surrounded by dirt and in the 2nd round the 'something maw' entered through rear door. Battle went well...loved your monsters. A few rules comments follow. 1. You were right, the dirt moving around the earthen defender had very little effect on play (mostly b/c it did the attacking). 2. Wind sprite worked well as controler, but maintaining the whirlwind was kind of bogus. It is a great idea and she did it b/c she had that spare minor action each round, but what you really need is the ability to move the whirlwind itself - not just those that come into contact with it. 3. The death bite of the maw didn;t really come into it as the PCs dealt with the thing mostly from range. Overall a pretty good encounter. :) Next room, wizard on floor by fireplace and opened book nearby. The lava guy leaps out of fire and wreaked havoc on group. The bursts at bloodied and death REALLY messed the group up. 4 sq burst is a VERY LARGE area. B/c it was indoors, everyone in the room, including the room itself, the dead wizard, his book, etc was incinerated ;) I would restrict this burst to a much smaller area for such a small creature. I realise its level and the PCs dealt with it with trouble (as they should have given their level), but is was more of a visual thing..."It explodes...and I get hit WAY over here, AND it is still there?" Anyway, hope actual playtest helps. Players loved it. It was our 1st XP with 4E and we had a ball. I LOVED using these critters and the players really liked the character options. Cheers, C
