Origins 2008

First Post
Just got back from Origins 2008.

Working with Amorphous Blob Games, we ran over 100 game events, including over 50 RPG events. Our premiere event (The Dance of Halus) was a blast!

I got to attend seminars by both D&D luminaries and Guests of Honor: Mike Mearls and Ed Greenwood.

It was wonderful to catch up with Crothian for a time in the dealer's hall today.

Met with several fellow podcasters, who were AMAZINGLY welcoming and gracious. Special thanks to all.

I ran several games of 4e for the first time. Awesome.

Purchased Reign, and I'm looking forward to a possible online SKYPE campaign.

Great deals (amazing deals) as always in the dealers room. It will take me weeks to catch up on my gaming reading again. Huzzah!

How was your Origins? Any highlights to share? Anyone have any questions?

It was great. I had the worst con game I've ever had. But then I also had the best no game as well. There was no big buzz about anything and I think attendence was down. I blame gas prices and airlines though, it's just the way things are looking.

Hey Cro,

You didn't happen to play in a Star Wars game on Friday afternoon did you?

Origins is always fun, I just hate that I could only go for 8 hours one day due to real life as opposed to my normal 3 full days.

Nope, do I have a clone? ;)

At Origins I only play the games I don't get a chance to play at my own table. So, no D&D, Star Wars, M&M and other games I got lucky enough to play this consistantly this year.

Sweet! Any photos? :D

I didn't have my camera with me until Sunday, and mostly took photos of the crazy Amorphous Blob crew.

The highlight for the con for me was definitely getting to hang out, thank, and chat with Mike Mearls and Ed Greenwood. My fanboy factor was in full effect.

The low point for me was realizing I "underprepared" one of my events (char sheets), making some basic assumptions about rules elements that players would know...not so much. The players still had fun, so I just need to do some quick updates to my stuff for GenCon.

I had several friends/family who were only able to attend for one, two, or three days as well. It's ironic that this was such a recurring theme this year. I know for myself the last couple years I was only able to attend part of the time as well. This year was "back to full time" for me, which was awesome!

What did you play that you really liked?

Dread was great even though the group wasn't the greatest. I like the new Hunter game but think it seems really close to the mortals game. The best game was an Unknown Armies game followed closely by a Delta Green Game. Those are by two awesome GMs that know how to run great con games.

My son and I attended Origins for the first time this year. The experience was awesome and I'm regretful I failed to find time in the past to attend. It will certainly be a central planning assumption for our future summers.

In addition to photos, I caught several videos, including a seven minute walk through the convention hall from one end to the other. I've shown it to family already and they were amazed at the size and scope of the convention. Once I get it uploaded to YouTube I'll post the link here.

It's a bit shaky, as I shot it with a small digital camera, but it does give a decent overview of the show.
