For those of you who have OSRIC v0.04, it's going to be superseded shortly by the release of OSRIC v1.00 -- which will be the first version I'm prepared to call "finished." Thanks to many people, and Mr David M. Prata in particular, for their suggested edits and improvements.
As always, OSRIC v1.00 will be available as a free .pdf. I will also make hardback and softcover printed versions available at cost price from Lulu. First release will be in US English, but a British/Commonwealth English version will follow.
I've also got plans to release limited-edition collectors' versions, but that won't happen until after general release.
Work is in hand on the OSRIC Companion. This document will comprise some more sections of the 1979 1e rules -- particularly monsters and treasure. More collaborators would be nice; please let me know if you're interested in contributing! You won't get paid (it's an OSRIC core rules document, and those are always going to be free in .pdf format and sold at cost in print) -- but you'll get my personal gratitude and the chance to see your name in lights in the credits!
In other news, there are presently about 20 non-core OSRIC titles available and plenty more in the works. RPGNow have created a separate category for OSRIC and the core rules have become an electrum download (although if you added up its number of downloads from all sources rather than just RPGNow, it would actually be at least triple platinum.
) I won't link to the RPGNow category just yet, because they only include Expeditious Retreat, Goblinoid Games, Mob United Press and 0one's OSRIC releases -- Ronin Arts inadvertently got skipped.
A non-core OSRIC 128-page rulebook, "Monsters of Myth", is written and in the final layout/proofreading stage. Comprising about 150 new monsters and over 80 pieces of artwork, "Monsters of Myth" will be devoted to fresh material that hasn't previously appeared in a 1e-compatible hardback (so you won't get OSRIC re-hashes of the standard orcs, goblins, kobolds, etc. -- those will appear in the OSRIC Companion). MoM will be unlike previous 1e-compatible monster books in two respects.
First, it contains no "unique" creatures from the outer planes. The editors felt that those creatures might be interesting to read, but they were rarely encountered in actual play, and we wanted to focus on material that would be of immediate value to users. Second, it doesn't have the usual 10-20 pages of encounter tables and adverts. There's a couple of sides of information to help the GM prepare encounter charts, breaking down the creatures into experience value category and habitat, but a much greater proportion of the pagecount is devoted to the creatures themselves.
I should just mention that MoM's contributors include an eminent former TSR employee who's been active in the RPG market since before 1978...
Finally, I wanted to say that I'm very interested in talking to anyone who manufactures miniatures, with a view to collaborating on an OSRIC miniatures line.
