[ot] Anybody use Trillian, and have a problem with MSN messenger?

Gnome Berzerker

First Post
Everytime I log on to my Trillian account, I get a warning message from MSN, saying that my version is outdated, and I must upgrade immediately.

I click on the link they provide, and download the new software. I'll install the software, and restart, but I still get the same warning message from MSN.

I've tried uninstalling MSN from Trillian, and then putting it back in, but I still have the same problem.

Anyway, what I find strange is that if I open MSN Messenger by itself (without using Trillian), I have no problems logging on.

Anybody have this same problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Same problem exactly. :) The only thing to do is close down the message when it comes, there's nothing you can actually do about it. That or sign in to MSN on MSN and take your MSN account off Trillian...

This may be your problem, here is slashdot post about it. Seems Msn is blocking outside clients from Msn for security purposes? Microsoft security

Now they are in licensing talks with trillain.

Read about it here at this link http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=03/08/31/0059234&mode=thread&tid=109&tid=126&tid=187&tid=95

A few links in the basic opening paragraph that are interesting. Hope it answers your questions.

Interesting. The article suggests that pay clients should be charged a license fee. Unfortunately for me I am using Trillian v0.74 which means I am being affected even with a free product. Such is life. It's no biggie, really. I only have a couple of friends who use MSN regularly and I can always catch them in IRC. As far as MSN's annoying warnings I am simply sending them back to them. The worst they can do is close my free email account and dump my messenger account, which is fine by me since I have lots of email addresses and can chat on other clients.
