[OT] Anyone know a program that plays RM files?

I refuse to download RealPlayer. If I can't get QuickTime or Windows Media, I do without.

I can't stand RealNetworks. They distribute spyware, and make it almost impossible to find their free player. Also they seem to be another company that thinks that Microsoft shouldn't be allowed to compete with them.

Now that's a piece of rather useless information, i actually am also not very happy with the realmedia player (it's got some quirky hotkey, CTRL+P for play and pause, instead of the SPACEBAR that many other programs use), or the rm format (it's not known for it's great encodings). But unless you explain your motives, it' often best to keep quiet...

Although i must admit that i got a bunch of Tenchi Universe episodes that are only 35MB (+/- 25min) and can actually be reasonably watched, can't do that with divx...

Perhaps not; but my 200 meg episodes of Hikaru no Go, Full Metal Panic, Seikai no Senki, Hellsing, and Noir are near-DVD quality at times with Divx (About a 35 minute download on my connection from a good fserv)... can't say that about realmedia :)

Although I must point out; tench universe is licensed and if you got it off a normal anime distro network it should be taken down, the "code" of anime distros normaly demands that.

True Tsyr, those 35 MB RM files do not compare to the 200MB Hikaru no Go (i really like this, me wants to play go now, seems an interesting game) and Metal Panic (teenage mercenaries with invisible mechanoids, WOW!) i've seen. But as we like to say, never look a gifted horse in the mouth (iow. don't complain about gifts).

Don't worry Tsyr, i didn't get it from a 'normal' anime distro, it was from a newsgroup posting. Tenchi was even spoken in english...

Anime around here (europe) isn't readily available, and if available, it's pretty damned expensive or japanes which i don't speak). I've ordered some anime from america, but i can't call that 'cheap' either. Currently my money is going into buying a lot of D20 material, i'm planning in a couple of months to start importing anime...

If you really wanna play go...

I use TurboGo to play against a computer. It's shareware, but the only real difference between shareware and full is that you can only play on the first three levels of difficulty (of five, and I don't expect that will stop being a challenge any time soon for me) -

And I play on MSN Zone's Go rooms as "Reitsuki", normaly about once a day.

I'm building a board for the heck of it... I thought about buying one, but then I checked princes on a solid wood "table" board like in Hikaru... $500-$20,000 JUST FOR THE BOARD. Stones go from $20 all the way up to like $5,000, and the bowls to hold stones are from $50 to $1,000. So I ordered just a set of the stones and am gonna make the board out of a maple block and the bowls out of probably wicker or something. Not as authentic, but a lot cheaper.

Thank for the links Tsyr, much appreciated! Ouch! Those 'genuine' Go boards are expensive! I personally would prefer hand crafted items made by my self, it's a big kick to make stuff and to actually use it. Do you have any 'official' measurements for te go board? What do you use for playing pieces?
