(OT) Are you also a 1x RPG'er?

Okay let me firts clarifiy, that I'm not talkign about only palyign D&D once. What I am talking about is RPG games for systems like Sony, & Game Cube, or Computer RPG's.

I'll buy or rent a RPG, go through the story, beat it once, and never touch it again. The thing I like about D&D is the character, world and story is always different. So I always come back to it.

When it comes to other types of RPG's I simply don't play them a seond time, because I feel the story is done, and there is no point in returning to it, no matter how much I enjoyed it. I have friends who will play a rpg game over and over again everytime enjoying it as much or more then the first time.

So am I the only one like this? Who replays the same game again & why? Who doesn't? Why or why not?

I will replay a game for two reasons:

- If there is a substantially different way to beat the game.
For instance, the first time I beat Baldur's Gate, it was with a Paladin and a whole party.

The second time, I tried it with a solo Magic-User/Thief. That was a different experience. :)

- If I really loved the story.
I've played Planescape: Torment repeatedly, because I just love the story. Sorta like flipping through a favorite book, every now and then.

there's a handful of crpgs i've played more than once. it really depends on the game -- how much latitude it allows you in character creation and in "solving" the game.

i played fallout 2 probably 4 or 5 times, trying different character concepts, and choosing different ways of completing quests.

i played arcanum twice -- once as a mage, once as a technologist.

PC RPG's tend to be more replayable than console RPG's (I'm calling them both RPG's for convenience... not much RP in any of these G's). I'm a completist as far as RPG's are concerned... if there's a substantial hunk of game that I missed when I go through the game, I'll play it again to cover that hunk even if I know everything that happened. Yeah, that means I played Chrono Cross (though it was far from the best console RPG ever) 3 times to get all the characters in 1 party!

Yep, I never play CRPGs more than once (with one notable exception, Blade Runner, who has nine different endings according on how you play the game).

Actually it goes to all computer games. Once I've finished them, I won't touch them again (again with the exceptions of CivII and SimCity 2000).

I've never understood that concept I've been hearing in game reviews all over the place: "Re-Playability"

WTF is that?!?

Heh - a lot of console/CRPGs have more actual playing of roles in them than many pen-and-paper RP sessions I had the misfortune of observing throughout highschool. ;)

CRPGs----never more than once. In fact, its rare I get to the end at all. To struggle your way to the end and then start ALL OVER AGAIN!?!? No way. By the end, I am s sick of the game I never want to look at it again. For some reason, this only applies to crpgs.

Now first person shooters, on the other hand, I do play more than once, If I really liked it. Played Aliens vs. Predator more than once, because I loved the feeling of actually being IN my favorite movies. Same with the Jedi Knight games, especially the latest one.

I guess it all depends on personal preference.

Blade Runner, eh? I didn't know there were that many different endings- I might have to blow off the dust and boot it up again.
Incidently, I think Blade Runner is more of an adventure game than an RPG.

the only differance between the common CRPG and an Adventure Game is that in CRPGS you create your own character and advance in levels.

What that has to do with RPGs I fail to see.

You run around, talk to a lot of people, solve puzzles and get into a combat or two. Sounds pretty much like Baldurs Gate to me, just with more interesting plot.

After all, they call Diablo a RPG. What's up with that?!? It's a 2D third person shooter (or rather hack-n-slasher).

Actually, the guys who designed Diablo not only don't call it an "RPG", they've publically pointed out that it isn't on several occasions. The "RPG" label was an angle the marketing department came up with.
