Hello, writers! Acouple of months back, a few of us from these boards started a writers group dedicated to workshopping genre fiction (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, etc.). Some of us have been published, and some of us are still trying to get there, but our goals are the same: to help writers of genre fiction try to rework their stories into publishable works.
We already have several short stories and chapters of several novels online, and the quality of the writing and critiquing has been superb. We are necessarily harsh at times with our critiquing, but that is needed in order to produce quality works. Regardless of the harshness of the critiques, we don't allow any personal insults to enter into it. We are focusing on improving these works of fiction, not tearing down the work of others.
Here's the pitch: If you are a writer of genre fiction and are interested in improving your work, we'd like you to join us. We are trying to keep our numbers small (less than twenty, but we only have about half of that right now) so that we can keep up a good ratio of new work being posted while still giving everyone a chance to get some good critiques. If you just want someone to tell you how brilliant your writing is, this isn't the writer's group for you. If you can't take criticism (sometimes harsh and brutal) in the constructive manner it is given without getting your feelings hurt, this is also not the group for you.
However, if you are serious about improving your writing and helping others do the same, we'd like to hear from you. We have set up a forum on www.ruined.net, and it is currently private and hidden. If you would like to join, reply here so I know that you are interested. (I'm the moderator, and ruiner is the site administrator.) Then, go to the ruined.net forums and sign up. Finally, email me at tevyn@mchsi.com and let me know your username so I can set your permissions to get into the Genre Writer's Group forum.
