[OT] Australia burns!

An estimated 388 houses lost in Canberra, with the loss of 2 life... a few medical centres have been burn down, as well as the observatory.

Over 65,000 ha have been burnt in north east victoria, which is where I grew up. The worst thing is I have family and friends in both areas, and have not been able to contact any of them

Some people are just absolute f&^%heads.

Also, just remembered one of my co-workers, who has been on holiday for a week, is holidying somewhere near Canberra. It's scary when you can't get in touch with people you know during a disaster.

Yeah I remember the craziness when the Twin Towers were destroyed. It was awful watching people (I live in New York) freak out because they can't get in touch with family members who were in or near the Towers. But there was nothing they could have done.

So I sympathize with how you feel.
