Okay, I know cell phones are really dominant in our society but COME ON! One of the Canadian Olympians was talking on his cell phone during the opening ceremonies when they walked in.

Maybe he/she was talking to his sick momma back home who could not be there to see the proudest moment in her son's/daughter's life.

You are mean!

:D

Maybe he's on a sponsoship deal. Would be a lot of coverage of the olympics..

I love the topics of General Discussion some days.

One of the people close to the President (of the USA) was on a cell phone and handed it to President Bush, as if they wanted him to say "Hi" to their family at home.

I'd caution against cell phone use at the Olympics since they can be used by terrorists to target missiles at your cheekbone with pinpoint accuracy and lessen your chances for a gold medal in face related sports. :(

God forbid someone have one in a place like that, but there are cell phone guns.

Practically every other athlete there had a cell phone. It's no big deal, it's not like the athletes' entrance is supposed to be a solemn march. Now if one of the people carrying the WTC flag had been yakking on their phone while carrying the flag... That would be different. There are plenty of times during the olympics to be solemn, I think letting people have their fun should be the order of the day.

MythandLore: Good point, but I would think that the security personnel know about these and are keeping their eyes peeled for them. It looks like everyone's belongings are being checked when they enter the venues, and that's as it should be.
