It Came From Beneath the Sea was a 1955 film by Ray Harryhausen about a giant octopus. I believe it tried to pull down the Golden Gate Bridge in the movie.

Spawn of Cthulhu is good, too, though.

This is actually fairly dinky. Supposedly about 100 or so years ago, one washed up in Florida that was about 20 feet long (not counting the arms)
